Hope you're in the mood for dunks, dishes, and deep threes...WE GOT EM
RIGHT HERE! Relive this amazing season with some of our favorite plays from the 2011-2012
Minnesota State University Moorhead Dragons squad in this video.
The Minnesota State
University Moorhead Dragon men's basketball team season came to a end when they faced the No. 1
nationally ranked Colorado School of Mines to decide who
went to the NCAA Sweet 16, but the Orediggers shot incredibly well while
shutting down the Dragon's three-point strength to win 80-60 in their
home gym in Golden, Colo.
Even though the Dragon seniors refused to quit, the deficit proved too
much to overcome and the No. 1 Colorado Mines defeated MSUM to end
their extremely successful season by a score of 80-60.
“You need to have your seniors be leaders buy in,” said Head Coach Chad Walthall. “You
don't get to the NCAA's final 32 without great leadership, and these
guys really are great leaders, and I'm so proud of each and every one of
them.”
Thanks to BOTH Dragon Basketball teams for an incredible journey, and heart throbbing at the buzzer games here in Nemzek Fieldhouse.
Some Notable Stats From the Season:
Jake Driscoll is the Dragon's career leader in three point attempts with 509,
first in three pointers made with 207 and fourth in career assistst

The Dragon Athletics team will be releasing their new
website Wednesday, April 4. The website comes with many new and improved
features. This new website will be easy to navigate and a completely new design.
Right as you arrive on the home page you will notice the
huge pictures for the stories. They are four times the size of the old ones! Along
with the enlarged pictures comes easy accessibility for the user. Everything is
clearly labeled and in a nice big white font.
Dragon Athletics wanted to incorporate some game time
features into the new website. Out of this idea came the Twitter feed, to check
recent updates from the social media team at the game, and the score board,
listing all current and past scores of all Dragon sports.
The website will include an interactive fan poll, so the
fans can vote on what night they are looking for, cool promotions and many
other cool poll questions. A neat feature for fans and parents is the photo
store. The photo store will be the database for all the pictures taken by the
media crew. They will be uploaded and stored for your viewing and available for
purchase.
Lastly, the YouTube video widget will be big enough to see!
No more squinting at that tiny little video up in the corner! The videos will
be full sized and always there for your enjoyment.
I hope you all love the new website! Let us know in the
first fan poll on the website!

Hi Everyone,
When I first started working in Dragon Athletics and Marketing over 2 years ago the goal was to use social media to connect us with students, alumni, faculty and staff. We wanted to become a online community to listen and echo those voices to the administration of our campus. I am proud to announce that today we launched the very first Digital Trophy Room for the MSUM Dragons Athletics Facebook Fan Page. 117 trophies were collected, and with a photo shoot and a few excel documents we now can show our Dragon Pride to the world anywhere we go.
Please check them out, and help continue the AMAZING things that are happening in Dragon Athletics. Keep an eye out for some fun promotional videos to tag along with our #DragonHunting theme.

I
learned a lot about myself this Sunday at MSUM’s second annual “Walk a Mile in
Her Shoes®”, like shorter brightly colored high heels really transform my
hobbit feet into something to be desired. Over 50 other male
student-athletes joined me in wearing women’s shoes on Sunday. WHY? Walk
a Mile in Her Shoes® is an International Men’s March to Stop Rape, Sexual
Assault & Gender Violence. This was the second year the All-American
has lead this event. The event was hosted in CMU Main Lounge and Ballroom, and
all members of the Fargo-Moorhead community were welcomed to come… and they
did. Over 200+ people from the Fargo-Moorhead community attended.
During the walk, women and men together walked a mile around the campus of
MSUM. Men were given the opportunity to wear high heels to signify putting
yourself in her shoes… And some of the guys took it more seriously than others.
I saw two Dragon football players fighting over a pair of red pumps; with good
reason… not only were they great shoes, but size 16 heels don’t come by that
often.
The
Golden Shoe Award was given to an organization or team with the most attendance
at the event, and I am proud to say that MSUM Dragons men’s track team brought
it home this year. The GoldenCoin Award was given to the school that
raised the most amount of money on the event date, and again we slipped by our
friends over at Concordia to take that award home too.
This
year’s event was a huge success and all the Dragon men’s teams had players that
participated. Including men’s basketballs 6’10” Alex Novak in 6 inch heels.
Here
is a list of some other organizations that were in attendance: MSUM Football,
Basketball, Track & Field, Volleyball, Nemzek Noize, Resident Hall
Association, Gamma Phi Beta and Delta Zeta. Also, NDSU fraternities including
Alpha Gamma Rho, Sigma Phi Delta, Sigma Nu, Sigma Chi, and Sigma Alpha Epsilon
participated. Along with all of the participation from MSUM and NDSU again this
year, there was also participation from Concordia student organizations and
athletic teams.

Nemzek Field House held two section boys basketball games that ended in a thrill this past week. Part way through the remodeling stage Nemzek was host too the Minnesota Class 2a, Section 8 South subsection final and the Minnesota Class 8-3A championship. Both games packed Nemzek Field House with nearly 4,000 people on Tuesday night for the Perham, Pelican Rapids game, and about 2,500 for the Detroit Lakes, Fergus Falls game on Thursday night. Nemzek was rockin’ both nights. The Pelican Rapids Vikings came into the game ranked 3rd in the state while Perham Yellow Jackets came in 4th. Fans were lined up at the gates at 5:30 for a eight o’clock games. Nemzek was packed by 7pm. Tied 18-18 at half time, fans knew the game would go down to the wire. Perham had the chance to pull away, but struggled with their free throws late in the second half. Perham missed 13 free throws in the second half alone, which gave the Vikings a chance at the end of the Game with 9.2 seconds left to hit a 3-pointer. Casey Bruggeman had an open look, but the shot hit front iron and bounced off to end the game. Perham fans rushed the court in a mad frenzy to celebrate with the players. It was a good season for both teams, but Perham was headed to the section championship with their 57-54 win. The Detroit Lakes Lakers and the Fergus Falls Otters took the court on Thursday night in front of a packed house. The Lakers and the Otters also made the ticket worth the price in an exciting thriller. The game was tied 22-22 going into halftime. The Lakers came out firing in the second half and found themselves a 7 point lead with a few minutes remaining in the second half. Fergus Falls would not go away, Austin Rund hit a three ball bringing the Otters within 1. After two bonus free throws for the Lakers, Fergus Falls had to put up a desperation 3-pointer that was off the mark giving Detroit Lakes the 44-41 win. It snapped the Lakers 94-year state drought, finally getting that monkey off their back.
Both games lead to a floor charge by the fans. Checkout some videos that we managed to get during the games!

Please tell me that someone reading this blog played the video game “Double Dragon” as a child or young adult on Nintendo. There was also a movie, “Double Dragon: It’s not just a game anymore”. In the game you play as one two of martial artist twin brothers, Billy Lee, or his twin brother jimmy as they fight their way into the turf of the Black Warriors gang in order to rescue their common love interest Marian. We have our very own Double Dragon’s here at MSUM.
Our Double Dragons, #1 Nationally Ranked Corey Ulmer and Jacob Bennett. Are wrestling their way to NCAA DII Nationals on March 9 and 10, as the two teammates wrestle their way to through the brackets in order to rescue their common love interest, to bring a National Title to MSUM.
Corey Ulmer only began his postseason journey Sunday as he finished first at the NCAA Division II Super Region 3 tournament. Ulmer and Jacob Bennett qualified nationally for the Minnesota State University Moorhead Dragons by finishing in the top four in St. Cloud, Minn.
Watch here as Corey and Jake are honored along side of all the MSUM Dragon NSIC Champions and National Qualifiers
No. 1 ranked Corey Ulmer (26-2) entered Sunday, Feb. 26 looking for a guaranteed spot to the NCAA Nationals. After four matches and only two points surrendered, Ulmer was given his opportunity by winning the 125-pound central regional championship. The Ashley, N.D. native first dominated Jacob Papke of Wisconsin-Parkside as he held Papke scoreless to win, 11-0. The quarterfinal match between Ulmer and Brandon Oshiro of Mayville University ended as a second straight major decision win, 12-2. A 3-0 decision over Cody Lensing of Augustana sent Ulmer to the finals match where he defeated Joshua Kieffer of Indianapolis in a closely contested match, 2-0.
Since losing his last match on Nov. 19, Ulmer has won 19 straight and will carry that streak into the NCAA Nationals in Pueblo, Colo. Ulmer and his teammate Jacob Bennett will both be making the trip when action kicks off on March 9 and 10.
